Meet John

Hon. John Zerucelli, P.C., M.P. is the Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North and currently serves as Canada's Secretary of State for Labour. In this role, John is focused on strengthening Canada's workforce, supporting apprenticeships and skills training, and advancing practical, collaborative labour policies that protect workers while helping Canadian businesses grow and compete. 

John is a trained lawer specializing in dispute resolution. He began his legal career at a downtown Toronto law firm, where he developed expertise in complex negotiations and litigation - experience that he continues to draw from in his pragmatic approach to labour relations and public policy. 

John brings significant experience in the puclic service across both provincial and federal governments. His involvement in politics began during the era of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, and has since participated in numerous provincial and federal campaigns. Early in his career he worked in the office of former Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, gaining firsthand experience in provincial governance, public policy development, and stakeholder engagement. 

Before entering elected office, John built a successful career as an executive in the private sector, holding leadership roles at Labatt Brewing Company and Universal Music Canada. His work spanned operations, public affairs, and labour relations, providing real-world insight into the challenges facing Canadian workers and employers. 

Beyond politics John has long supported arts and culture in Canada. He has served on committees and advisory initiatives in support of the Writers' Trust of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company, advocating for the role of arts and culture in strengthening communities, supporting creators, and contributing to Canada's cultural economy. 

Born and raised in Rexdale, John has deep roots in Etobicoke North and a lifelong commitment to the community that shaped him. As a parliamentarian, John is known for being community-first, results driven, and solutions-oriented - bringing together legal expertise, executive leadership, and experience across all levels of government to deliver for the people of Etobicoke North and for Canadians across the country.
